Symphony Pro Musica
Invites Players to Audition
Symphony Pro Musica is always looking for new musicians, both as regular orchestra members and as substitute players.
This is a volunteer organization. We do this because it’s fun to play, and because it is so satisfying to perform great, classical music. Players of all orchestra instruments are encouraged to audition.
Auditioning for Symphony Pro Musica is not a terribly formal process. For an audition, we ask that you bring in something to play which shows off your abilities. For example, you might play some of a solo piece and your choice of orchestral excerpts. You will be asked to read some orchestral music.
A substitute player may be called to fill in when a regular player cannot attend a rehearsal. If a regular player cannot play a concert, we would like to bring in a substitute to play the concert and all rehearsals preceding it. Also, we occasionally play music which requires extra players, for example, offstage brass for Respighi’s Pines of Rome, or half the trumpet players in Eastern Massachusetts for Janacek’s Sinfonietta! The first people we ask are those on the substitute player list.
The orchestra rehearses mostly on Wednesday evenings at Hudson High School in Hudson, Massachusetts, plus some Mondays, especially near a concert. To schedule an appointment, please contact General Manager Alison Doherty at (978) 562-0939 or via email.
