About the performance
For SPM’s second concert of the 2026-2027 season we celebrate the mighty grand piano in both romantic and more modern roles with the beloved Concerto No. 3 by Rachmaninoff and Leonard Bernstein’s compelling Symphony No. 2, “The Age of Anxiety,” often referred to as a piano concerto as much as a symphony. The brilliant young pianist Dmitry Yudin is our celebrated soloist. A prizewinner in numerous competitions in his native Russia and the US and Europe, he has been hailed for his technical mastery, musical artistry, youthful imagination, and intellectual depth. His most recent accolade was as one of the winners of an Avery Fischer Career Grant, given to the most promising rising stars in classical music each year. In addition to our fetê du piano, our concert will open with the profoundly touching “Chrysanthemums” for strings by Puccini.

Dmitry Yudin
Dmitry Yudin (b. May 16, 2001, Moscow) is a Russian-born pianist whose artistry combines intellectual depth with compelling virtuosity. He began his musical training at the Moscow Gnessins School of Music at the age of just five, studying with Professor Lydia Grigoryeva from 2008 to 2019, before relocating to the United States to further his education and career. Yudin entered the Manhattan School of Music in 2019 as a full-scholarship student, studying under the mentorship of Horacio Gutiérrez. During this period - including the pandemic years - he remained an active performer, presenting multiple solo recitals both live and online. His performances have taken him across Russia, the United States, and Europe. Recent seasons have marked Dmitry’s rapid rise on the international stage. In 2023, Yudin won the HMA Foote Award in Boston, Third Prize at the New York Concert Artists Auditions, and Second Prize at the Wideman Concerto Competition in Louisiana. In 2024, he received Second Prize at the prestigious Géza Anda International Piano Competition in Zurich. Highlights of 2025 include his acclaimed debut at the Miami Piano Festival, which earned him reviews like this one: _“Dmitry Yudin’s debut surpassed all expectations. He tackled a terrifyingly virtuosic program with authority and musicality. His imagination and sensitivity were on display throughout the whole concert, creating one of the most memorable debuts in the festival’s history.”_ 2025 also saw Yudin’s collaboration with the Verbier Chamber Orchestra under Gábor Takács-Nagy at Zurich’s Tonhalle Hall. In his musical career, Yudin has worked with leading artists including Evgeni Koroliov, Boris Berezovsky, Richard Goode, Steven Kovacevich, Jerome Rose and Mikhail Voskresensky. He is currently studying with Stanislav Ioudenitch at Park University in Kansas City.
